2018 Luther Burbank Rose Parade Experience

If you’ve ever wondered what brings a diverse community together, the answer is town loyalty. This became clear on May 19th at the annual Luther Burbank Rose Parade. It was a warm spring morning with a crisp breeze that kept it at a perfect California temperature. I had the privilege of sitting at the judge’s booth where I was embraced by all the action and enthusiasm of the lively event. There were many different kinds of organizations represented in the parade. Between school bands and cheer teams, nonprofits and historical organizations, it felt as if all of Sonoma County was there that day. The sidewalks were lined with people of all ages sitting on curbs or folding chairs, standing, and walking along with the parade. There was cheering, singing, and candy flying through the air. It was a lively atmosphere with a proud feeling of togetherness. Many of the parade entries and announcements were fire related which is reflective of our community and what we have been through this year. It was touching to see how the community supported those affected, and recognized that we have to continue to support them going forward. Our client, The HALTER Project, was holding their Ranch and Readiness Summit (an event open to the public to help prepare the community for disaster) the same day and had many banners hung around the parade route. It was nice to be able to offer a way to help in disasters. The Luther Burbank Rose Parade was an incredible and inspiring morning. It was hard not to leave with a smile, a slight sunburn, and a warm feeling of community, love, and support. Well done Sonoma County!
